10 the twenty-four elders fall down before him who sits on the throne and worship him who lives for ever and ever. They lay their crowns before the throne and say: 11 “You are worthy, our Lord and God,
to receive glory and honor and power,
for you created all things,
and by your will they were created and have their being.” (Rev 4:10-11)
This is a very popular passage of scripture. There's even a song for it. We call it a worship song. I love the this scripture just as I love the song. I've known it since I was a child. But for the first time this morning I meditated on the text- as I mused deeper on the scripture than other times that I have mimed and memorized it- it showed up in new light giving out some insights in a way I never considered up until now. So here I share with you the musing of my heart.
1.True worship demands absolute surrenderedness -your status or title don't count before God. These guys were elders in council, but they acknowledged that whatever or whoever they were, took root in God. All knees must bow before him.
2.Worship understands and subscribes to the Lordship of Christ. The elders threw their crown before the throne. When we understand worship- we won't find it difficult to submit our positional claims, rights and privileges to his Lordship. He alone becomes enthroned in our lives. Not our achievements or pedigrees. All our glories fade under the weight of His glory. He increases while we decrease.
3. True worship understands that we exist only for the purpose of Christ and not for our own selves. It is in him we live, move and have our being. He is our very essence. And so our lives must be patterned after His pleasure. We are simply the creatures of His desire. We can't afford to live for anything else except for Him.
4.When our lives are sacrificed to Him and His purpose- then he receives glory, honor and dominion. Worship goes beyond verbal adulation or adoration. Worship is our lives presented to Him as a living sacrifice.
