A Faith Response to Coronavirus

Image may contain: one or more people, ocean, cloud, sky, twilight, outdoor, water and natureSince the outbreak of Coronavirus began in China, it has been detected in more than 100 countries, with concentrations of thousands of cases in some areas. The World Health Organization has declared the outbreak a “pandemic.”
The spread of the virus is having a significant impact on people’s daily lives as world leaders and health authorities grapple with containing the epidemic. However, more significant and worrisome is the viral fear that has seized the world because of the virus.
Scaremongers are having a filled day trumping up conspiracy theories to make the narrative more horrific and disempowering. Iran’s President, Hassan Rouhani, alludes to the mischief of scaremongering: "One of the conspiracies by our enemies is to spread public panic in order to push our country toward lockdown.”
While Rouhani's allusion may be valid, the truth is that we have become our own enemies, with the attention and prominence, we've accorded the virus and the scary tone with which we are crystalizing its impact.
It's normal to be concerned and even anxious about the possibilities of the epidemic, but as Christians, our anxiety should yield to faith. In times like this, we should draw comfort and strength from Paul's admonition to the Philippians: "Do not be anxious (fearful) about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." (4:6-7) As people of faith, we should respond to the coronavirus scare with a faith-filled declaration:
We overcome by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of our TESTIMONY. We declare LIFE in place of death. We affirm that we are saved from the deadly pestilence that stalks in the darkness and the plague that destroys at midday. Because we dwell in the shelter of the Most High and we are covered under the shadow of the Almighty. We are immune and insured from the fallings of a thousand and ten thousand for the Lord is our refuge and fortress.
No harm befalls us, no disaster comes near our domain- we have angels on guard on our behalf. Though the mountains are shaken and the hills are removed-- His unfailing love for us will not be shaken nor His covenant of peace be removed. In righteousness, we will be established. Tyranny will be far from us. We will have nothing to fear. Terror will be far removed. It will not come near us. We are of God and greater is He that is within us, than the terror that's in the world. This is our heritage as children of God.
